Four Fine Dining Restaurants You Can Walk to from the Alden!

Staying at Alden Suites you have already made the wise choice of being comfortable, taken care of and you’ll still have a vacation budget to indulge. We want to make sure you enjoy whichever occasion you’re celebrating with us, and that you eat well! We’d love to share some of our favorite restaurants for your special dinner out and they are all within a mile of Alden Suites! Alden Suites is conveniently located on the beach with lots of choices for shopping, dining out and entertainment, but if you’re looking for something a little more special, we’ve got you covered! If you’re finding it hard to celebrate a special meal that doesn’t feel like you fell into a tourist trap with a menu that’s mostly fried, we suggest these 4 amazing restaurants to indulge and escape from the ordinary.

Snappers Sea Grill

Right across the street from the Alden is a wonderfully romantic restaurant called Snappers. The romantic ambiance and personalized service at Snappers set the scene for a truly special meal. Snappers is famed for their stuffed grouper, dry aged steaks, and blue tuna appetizer, and we’re totally addicted to their hand-cut fried zucchini sticks! Don’t forget to try their house-made desserts, the perfect accompaniment to a delicious celebration!

Fetishes Dining & Wine Bar

Fetishes offers an intimate and cozy setting with tableside service that makes the whole experience like no other. They have a garden out back where guests can see the fresh herbs used to make their meals. With dishes like duck a l’orange, steak Diane (cooked tableside) and their famous crab cakes accompanied by a thoughtfully selected and reasonably priced wine list, we know you’ll enjoy your night out!

Seared 1200 Chophouse

If the way to your love’s heart is steak, Seared 1200 Chophouse holds the key. Set in a refurbished 1940’s home along the intercoastal waterway just across the street from the Alden, 1200 Chophouse elevates steak to an art form, with incredible side dishes and a wine list to match. The flavor combinations and presentation will have you visually stimulated while you savor every bite! The truffle fries with gouda dipping sauce and seared duck breast are not to be missed. .

Sola Bistro and Wine Bar

Sola’s warm, quaint and comfortable atmosphere is cozy and intimate, perfect for a romantic evening out. The creative and passionately prepared dishes and attentive service offer a first-class dining experience. Ranging from unique dishes for the area like rabbit and venison and more traditional meals including pork belly and grouper, the menu offers a wide variety for everyone to enjoy. Romantic setting, amazing wine selection, and live music make for the perfect date night or celebration dinner, but we highly recommend you do NOT skip dessert here! Their famous honeycomb cake is a dish no one should leave St. Pete Beach without trying!

We hope you have a fabulous night out and indulge in a fine dining experience to complete your special stay with us. It’s great to live the no shoes, no shirt, no problem lifestyle, but if you’re looking to snazz it up a bit, all these phenomenal restaurants are all less than a mile away! It’s your vacation, why not enjoy the best of both worlds? Bon Appétit!

Alden Suites Celebrates Tampa Bay Watch Month in April

Alden Suites Beachfront Resort has been supporting Tampa Bay Watch with donations, event hosting, and volunteer activities for several years, and in April 2019, we are inviting our guests to get in on the fun. Tampa Bay Watch improves life for everyone in Tampa Bay through true grassroots efforts. Tampa Bay Watch builds oyster shell bars and oyster domes to promote oyster growth along man-made and altered shorelines of Tampa Bay with the help of volunteers.

Peter A. Clark, President of Tampa Bay Watch, Inc., notes that due to community support and involvement in Tampa Bay Watch, “water quality is best in the bay since the 1950s, seagrass has recovered 20,000 new acres since the 1980s, and fish and wildlife are returning to the bay as a result of these improvements.”

Mary Ann Renfrow, the Alden’s Director of Community Relations, serves as Chairwoman of the Board of the Tampa Bay Watch. Her team is working on a new Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center at the St. Pete Pier. A perfect destination for St. Pete Beach visitors, the amphitheater will seat about 180 people and serve as an outdoor classroom for the Discovery Center.

During the month of April, guests will learn all about Tampa Bay Watch and our local environment throughout the Alden Resort. There is a display in the lobby, posters in the elevators, laundry room, and at the bar. Tampa Bay Watch brochures are also available at check-in for guests to learn more and to have the opportunity to make a donation or become a member.

At the Alden Suites Cabana Bar, Chris and Dave are serving up signature Tampa Bay Watch specialty drinks, one called the Salt Marsharita, and another, The Palm, that’s named for the TBW Mascot. The Cabana Bar is also decorated with vertical oyster gardens, oyster domes, and table tents, allowing Alden guests to see how the Tampa Bay Watch works to clean up the bay.
Mary Ann Renfrow shares: “We are so happy to share the Tampa Bay Watch story with our guests this April as part of our #ALDENWOW50 celebration. Our guests are a part of this effort too since a portion of your tourist development tax when you stay in hotels like the Alden goes to pay for beach nourishment. If you’re enjoying the beaches, you have Tampa Bay Watch to thank!”

Alden Suites Beachfront Resort Celebrates 50 Years with a New Mural Painted by Pinellas County Students

Here at the Alden, we love to support the arts, and our Director of Community Relations, Mary Ann Renfrow, came up with an exciting idea to celebrate the Alden’s 50th anniversary of ownership by the Renfrow family. She connected with Brian McAllister, a talented muralist who leads a group of students from the Gibbs High School Mural Club. The newly renovated Alden Suites bungalows provided a perfect canvas for a new art piece to celebrate the past, present and future of the Alden.

This club is a community outreach mural program designed to provide local businesses with quality murals while showing students how to have a positive impact through art. Brian was excited for the opportunity to brighten up our historic resort on St. Pete Beach.

The process began in January of this year, as Brian met with the Alden team onsite to discuss designs and make plans. The team decided on a vintage postcard design celebrating the early years of the Alden and decided to paint the mural on the side of one of the Alden bungalows that faces the central pool area.

Mary Ann Renfrow chose some special elements to honor longtime guests of Alden Suites, including a painting of Cayanne, a sweet dog who lit up the Alden for over 15 years of visits with the Green family from St. Louis. The artists also included an image of a boy hanging in a palm tree, in homage to the Snelson family who won the #ALDENWOW50 photo contest this year.

Once the design was finalized, Brian drew the outlines on the side of the building. Then the students got to work, filling in large blocks of color first, then adding in details. The process of painting the mural took several weeks, and Alden guests were delighted to watch the progress, both in person at the resort and online through social media.

Sue Castleman, PreK-12 Visual Arts Specialist at Pinellas County Schools says: “I think the mural really represents what the Alden was looking for to celebrate their anniversary, and what’s really special is that we’ve involved our students from Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School. It’s interesting that it’s young children, our students that are painting this mural that represents 50 years for the Alden. It helps them in their experience as a working artist, to see what artists have to do, and helps them learn about how to look at something and represent it historically.”

On April 5, 2019, local St. Pete Beach dignitaries gathered with students, parents and the Alden Suites team to celebrate the unveiling of the new mural. The students were so proud to share the beautiful result of their weeks of hard work, and the Alden shared it in a Facebook live stream with thousands of viewers from across the nation.

Al Johnson, Mayor of St. Pete Beach, says it best: “The Alden is part of St. Pete Beach and that mural fits. It’s perfect for the Alden, it’s perfect for the area, it’s perfect for the city. It’s absolutely wonderful.”
