With many couples having children by the time they get married or becoming a ‘blended’ family with children from previous relationships, not everyone wants the traditional honeymoon. That’s why there’s a new phenomenon on the cards for families. Say hello to the ‘familymoon’, a great way for new families to share in a once-in-a-lifetime experience while creating a bond that will last forever.
While some newlyweds struggle to decide who will be taking care of the kids while on their honeymoon, others are already packing their bags and getting ready for an exciting familymoon. For some newlyweds, it’s just easier to take the kids than to organize a caretaker. A familymoon takes your honeymoon to an entirely new level as the love you have for each other is now shared with your children. It also allows the children to be a bigger part of the marriage experience. For blended families especially, these getaways provide an opportunity for the kids to get to know each other a bit better in a peaceful, neutral and fun environment.
Here at the Alden, our spacious suites are perfect for familymoons, with a living area that’s separate from the bedroom. If the kids are old enough to stay in their own room, book adjoining rooms. If you’d rather stay together, all rooms are furnished with queen-size sofa beds. This ensures you and your spouse will still have plenty of privacy despite taking the kids along for the ride.
Our family-friendly accommodations give kids more than enough
activities to occupy their time. The best part is your children can roam around
in a safe environment so you don’t have to worry about their whereabouts all
the time. You can even get a nanny or babysitter to ensure the kids are well
cared for while you get out to have some fun, whether that involves a spa date
or a romantic dinner on the beach.
There’s no doubt that traveling with kids can be a fulfilling
experience no matter the occasion—but it can also be tiring. If you still want
to celebrate your marriage in a quieter way, get a friend or family member to
watch the kids while the two of you get away or spend a night or two alone as a
couple. This will allow you both to unwind from the vacation and enjoy each
For blended families, your familymoon might be your first vacation together, so choosing a destination that will be memorable is extremely important. Whether you’re looking at theme parks, big city getaways or tropical beach resort vacations, Alden Suites checks all the boxes. We’re less than an hour away from both Busch Gardens and Tampa and a “go to” for water adventures right off the beach. Choose from parasailing, jet skis, kayaks, paddleboards or book a dolphin-watching cruise, daily sunset cruise or a cruise for shellers to Shell Island—tons of options for relaxation, fun, adventure, and lots of romance for the happy couple.
While the concept may seem novel, showing affection in front of your kids can actually be beneficial to their development. It shows them what a healthy relationship should look like and can help them feel safer, more secure and loved. Familymoons also allow you to reassure your kids that your love for them hasn’t changed. If you’re tying the knot in the near or far future, we’d be happy to host your family for your very own familymoon! Book online today.
Home to crystal clear waters, pristine white sands and plenty of
family fun, St. Pete Beach is one of the finest beaches in Florida. In fact,
it’s ranked #1 on Trip Advisor’s 2020 list of the Top 25 Beaches in the United
States. But there’s so much more to this barrier island that sets it apart from
Florida’s wealth of award-winning beaches. Here are 8 fun facts about St. Pete
Beach that will inspire you to visit this blissful Floridian favorite.
The silky white powder that lines the beach was once mountains of impenetrable quartz hundreds of miles from Florida’s shores. It took Mother Earth more than two million years to produce the velvety smooth sand you’ll find here today. Much of the sand on Florida beaches is produced by the weathering of continental land masses like the Appalachian Mountains and washed down America’s rivers into the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
Once a playground for America’s social elite, the iconic Don CeSar Beach Resort was built in 1926 by Thomas Rowe to resemble a Mediterranean-style castle. When it opened two years later, a room on the European plan went for $24 per night. The “Pink Palace” can be seen for miles to the east and west and has its place on nautical charts as a permanent marker for boaters. Today, the color is protected by law as a mariner’s guide.
The 47-mile Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail is one of Florida’s most popular and unique urban pathways. Grab some skates or rent a bike and venture down the trail which connects St. Petersburg to Tarpon Springs along an old railroad route. Along the way, you’ll pass several county parks, coastal areas and communities. It also provides access points to nearly every town in the area.
The St. Pete Road Runners, the premier running club in the St. Pete/Tampa area, invites runners and walkers every month to join their evening St. Pete Beach 5k Race. The Alden’s Director of Community Relations, Mary Ann Renfrow, is one of the founding members of this group! The largest beach race in the area is run entirely on the beach, in the sand, and is a great way to stay fit on vacation. Pack your sneakers and retain your summer beach bod while you’re away from the gym.
The sunset at Pass-A-Grille features a rare sight as the last sliver of light dips below the waterline: The Green Flash. This phenomenon—named for the sudden and briefly changing color—only lasts about a second or two but, if you have a chance to witness it, your love for St. Pete Beach sunsets will grow even stronger. Pack a few beers and head down to the southern end of the beach to catch this natural wonder.
Grouper is a dinner table staple in St. Pete Beach. Head down to Sea Critters Cafe—where it’s always island time—to sample their grouper sandwich, voted Best in the South by Southern Living Magazine. You can have it made to order and served in six different ways. They also serve grouper tacos, fritters and salads, all freshly prepared to order and worth every bit of the wait.
Right next door is St. Petersburg where you’ll find some incredibly unique boutiques, eateries and hordes of vintage goodies tucked away on Central Avenue. Come here for a fresh and funky Florida vibe where old St. Pete mixes with new for an artsy and authentic local experience. “God’s waiting room” as it was once known is more like a heavenly rave these days with downtown bursting on weekend nights with music and street life.
We’re called The Sunshine City for a reason. The average amount of days of sunshine per year here is 361 but we do hold the Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine: 768 days which began in 1967. The year-round gorgeous weather makes St. Pete the perfect destination for your getaway no matter the time of year. We can’t wait to welcome you!
arrival in St. Pete/Clearwater brings milder temperatures along with a diverse
lineup of events, from high-speed to low-key. There are art festivals, cultural
celebrations, sporting events and a sprinkling of major festivals devoted to
art, music and food. Here’s a look at just some of the most anticipated
happenings in St. Pete/Clearwater in March. The weather is perfect for getting

The Grapefruit League schedule was
recently revised to limit travel, so the Blue Jays will play their 28
exhibition games against the Yankees, Pirates, Phillies, Tigers and Orioles.
You’ll see players following health protocols on the field, in the dugout and
around the complex, but the day-to-day workings of Spring Training and the
players in camp will be different, too.
For the Blue Jays, this means a heavy
dose of top prospects in camp. This will be a valuable development tool for
many young players, especially coming off a missed 2020 Minor League season. In
a typical Spring Training, many of these prospects would be across town at the
club’s training complex, which is separate from TD Ballpark. Having them over
on the Major League side to start camp will provide a clear look at the Blue
Jays’ young talent, and should make the latter innings of exhibition games
worth watching as they get some reps.

Getting away can offer rewarding, life-changing and humbling
experiences—especially if you take some time to give back on your vacation. The
concept of voluntourism has grown rapidly over the past decade, offering
families a way to alleviate stress, increase happiness and expose kids to
something beyond the typical resort vacation where a whole new world awaits.
Above all, giving back to a community, the environment or a special family is a
meaningful way to spend a day—or even just a few hours—and has been shown to
improve health, extend life and lower the risk of depression. Because it’s so
good for your heart and soul, we’ve gathered seven different volunteer
activities that you and your family can do during your St. Pete vacation.
Florida Dream Center’s Adopt-a-Block
The Florida Dream Center is committed to reaching far into communities throughout Pinellas County and helping them achieve tangible improvement. The Adopt-a-Block program adopts specific communities in need of assistance and provides nearly anything they’re in need of, including street clean-up, home repairs, lawn maintenance and a host of other services. Over 200 volunteers are now part of the program with dozens entering the community every week. Help make long-term, life-changing improvements to the communities that need it most by calling the Florida Dream Center at 727-851-9074 or emailing Zelda O’Connell at email@example.com. Volunteers meet every Saturday from 8:40 am-12 pm at three different locations. Be sure to wear enclosed shoes and comfortable outside working clothes.
Tampa Bay Watch
Tampa Bay Watch is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the
protection and restoration of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and
educational programs. They couldn’t accomplish any of their restoration or
education goals without the help of their active volunteer base. Volunteers of
all ages from children to retirees help in habitat restoration projects, lend a
hand at their annual fundraisers and represent their organization at community
events to increase awareness. Due to COVID-19, fall restoration projects will
not be open to the public for volunteering but they’re hopeful to return to a
normal volunteer project schedule in the spring. Contact Rachel Arndt with any
questions at firstname.lastname@example.org
or call (727)867-8166, x233.
Sweetwater Organic Community Farm
Sweetwater Organic Community Farm was established in 1995 as a nonprofit community-supported urban organic farm and environmental education center in Tampa. As a non-profit, educational farm, Sweetwater relies on the help of volunteers to assist with the day-to-day operations of the community farm. Volunteers can work on a variety of farm tasks, such as planting, harvesting and weeding. There are also site projects for those with carpentry and electrical skills. The farm is open for volunteers Sunday from 9 am-12 pm. You must be at least 12 years old to volunteer but younger kids can come out from 10-10:30 am and wash veggies that are harvested from the fields. Kids love helping with this and even getting the chance to run around a bit or dig in the dirt. Go to sweetwater-organic.com to fill out a volunteer form.
A botanical paradise in the midst of a bustling city, the Sunken
Gardens is St. Petersburg’s oldest living museum. Help preserve and enhance
this 100-year-old garden and provide opportunities for the community to enjoy
this educational and cultural center by becoming a volunteer. Make new friends,
participate in unique projects and gain knowledge from your efforts. Whether
you assist with their animals, special events, gift shop, garden care, as a
docent or become a member of their speaker’s bureau, you’re sure to grow as
much as the Gardens does. Simply complete and return the Volunteer Application
and their volunteer coordinator will respond with next steps.
Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger
The Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger is committed to ending hunger in Tampa Bay by bringing people together to find solutions that eliminate barriers, increase access and knowledge and expand the amount of nutritious food available. Meals on Wheels for Kids (MOW4Kids) and Meals on Wheels St. Petersburg (MOWSP) change lives by delivering one meal at a time. Volunteers are essential in providing care and compassion to kids, seniors and homebound residents in need of nutrition assistance. MOWSP is looking for drivers to help pack and deliver meals Monday through Saturday from 9 am-2 pm and MOWSP is looking for drivers to assist with delivering meals Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am-2 pm. A route takes an hour to complete. Go to networktoendhunger.volunteerhub.com to sign up.
Society of St. Andrew
Since 1995, the Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) has operated a statewide, volunteer-driven Gleaning Network in Florida that coordinates with local farmers, thousands of volunteers and food providing agencies. Their Florida Gleaning Network is going strong—saving three to four million pounds of fresh produce for the hungry each year. Each year, they coordinator thousands of volunteers of all ages to glean one to two million pounds of a wide variety of produce in Florida. If you’re interested in joining this exciting hands-on ministry, contact SoSA at (407)650-1956 or (800)806-0756. Most gleaning events take place on weekends where you’ll arrive in the fields at 8 am and be on your way by noon. SoSA makes all the arrangements with farmers, produce containers and food distribution. All you need to do is show up.
360 Eats is a newly formed non-profit mobile food service
providing an innovative solution to bridge the gaps between food waste, food
insecurity and sustainability. 30-40% of quality food produced in the United
States goes to waste each year and yet one in eight Americans are considered
food-insecure. Their goal is to eradicate hunger and food waste as we know it
by providing upwards of 500,000 nutritious and gourmet meals to those in need
and rescue over 1 million pounds of good food in the US each year. Volunteers
are the backbone of 360 Eats. They offer plenty of opportunities for everyone
to get involved—from volunteer food recovery drivers to volunteer chefs and
servers. Go to 360eats.org/volunteer
to sign-up and help make a difference in the community.

We ALL love the Tampa Bay beaches, and there’s a reason why our water is so clear and our sand is so pure and white. Find out all you need to know about Tampa Bay’s unique ecosystem, right in the middle of it all! Tampa Bay Watch has been working for over 30 years to clean up our shorelines, and they do it in very unique ways. The Discovery Center’s Estuary Habitat and Touch Tank are key to understanding how the whole ecosystem works together- showcasing a variety of species found in Tampa Bay waters.
If you’re looking for a rainy-day family outing in St. Pete,
the Discovery Center is just the ticket. But the Discovery Center is not strictly an
indoor experience. They also have a cool “wet classroom” with an amphitheater-style
observation deck that hosts outdoor demonstrations.
The Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center is a perfect family activity for visitors to St. Pete Beach, and it also plays host to a variety of fun and educational events. Science Saturdays, Squid Encounters, and Adult Trivia nights are just a few of the featured activities that visitors to the Discovery Center can look forward to in the coming months. Click here to see all the fun coming your way!
