We ALL miss the Cabana Bar these days,

guests. Chris, Dave, Bob and Betsy shared some of their favorite recipes for tropical
cocktails so you can keep that Cabana Bar spirit going until you come and see
us again! All of these recipes are for a single drink, just multiply by how
many drinks you want to make, or make a great big pitcher full, we won’t judge!

We can’t wait to see you back at the Cabana Bar very soon!
As you may have heard, the Alden is closed through the month of April due to COVID-19. While we are unable to serve our guests in person during this time, we will be connecting with you online through our blog, social media and email to keep the Alden Family spirit alive! This week, we’d like to share some of the amazing things that local St. Pete Beach businesses are doing to support our community at this time.
The Alden’s Director of Community Relations Mary Ann Renfrow joined Feeding Tampa Bay this week for a drive-through food pantry serving St. Pete Beach’s hospitality workers with the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce. We are grateful to St. Petersburg’s Lantmannen Unibake for donating the bread and to our Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputies that assisted. The common theme from all who came out to receive donations was, “We want to get back to work”.
Brian McAllister and the Gibson Mural Club created an amazing mural last year at the Alden, and now he’s carrying on the Club’s work- take a look!
The Food Truck Convoy organized a convoy of food trucks and partnered with local restaurants to serve meals to neighbors in need, and help to keep food trucks and restaurant owners/staff working.
In a Seminole neighborhood near Starkey Elementary School, people are showing their love for families with school children by putting teddy bears in their windows.
St. Pete Rising is teaming up with one local restaurant and one hospital or healthcare provider per day to raise money to provide daily meals for healthcare workers. It’s a great way to donate to help the St. Pete Beach people that we all know and love.
Our good friends at Grillin N Chillin are offering free pulled pork sandwiches to out-of-work hospitality workers.
3 Daughters Brewing Co. in St. Petersburg is making thousands of containers of hand sanitizer for local healthcare workers, and giving them away for FREE!
Join the Great American Camp-In Challenge! Families are Camping IN at home and getting creative. Whether you’re imagining yourself in a jungle, the safari or even another planet they want to see your Camp-IN campground. Clearwater Marine Aquarium is sharing an inside look at the lives of their aquatic inhabitants, including the famous Winter the Dolphin:
Tampa Bay Watch is sharing educational stories and videos about the natural beauty and incredible wildlife that we enjoy here in St. Pete Beach.
And if you want some educational entertainment, we recommend Florida Stories from Florida Humanities. “Florida Stories” tours are high-quality, packed with photos and rich audio that will open your eyes to many of Florida’s cities and towns in a way you’ve never experienced before.
We love to support these local businesses and hope that you’ll
support them next time you’re here at the Alden!
We want to give you a welcome distraction and something to look forward to, so we are offering a very special contest this April: We love our Alden Family, and we want to get to know you better! At Alden Suites, we take the health and safety of our guests and associates seriously. We are closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization’s statements regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and following the guidelines from these agencies as well as local health departments and medical professionals. The CDC has not issued a travel health notice for the continental U.S. regarding COVID-19. Yet as an enhanced preventative measure in light of current related events in Florida, we’ve further enhanced our cleaning, communication, and promotion of healthy hygiene practices.
Our housekeeping department has always cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectants. We have increased the thoroughness of our cleaning schedule and practices to improve sanitation. Items cleaned in suites include phones, remotes, hairdryers, irons, and high traffic touchpoints. Hand sanitizing stations are accessible to guests in all of our public spaces and lobby. Key cards and parking passes are being sanitized between each guest check-in.
For associates who have direct contact with guests, e.g. front desk agents, housekeepers, and maintenance personnel, we provide surface disinfecting products and hand sanitizer. For guests checking in, associates are asking guests to disinfect their hands upon arrival and sharing hand washing, coughing and sneezing etiquette tips.
Our managers have been provided with detailed health and safety procedures to share with their associates. Managers will ask associates to stay home when they are sick. Additionally, we have communicated directly to all associates regarding the necessity of safe hand washing and hygiene practices.
We also want to share that here at Alden Suites, we have closed the Cabana Bar until further notice as required by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The food truck is still open for takeout orders. Essential beach supplies and snacks are available at our Grab and Go shop. We do have some amenities here at Alden Suites that will help make it easier for you to practice social distancing. Our suites all have full kitchens, which allows our guests to prepare food and drinks in their suites instead of going out to restaurants and bars. Publix delivers groceries here at Alden Suites, so you can enjoy a stocked refrigerator without fighting the crowds at grocery stores. We also have 4 gas grills on our BBQ deck, adequately spaced apart so our guests can prepare food on the grill. We have modified our cancellation policies to accommodate guests who are experiencing a change of plans. As of right now, the Alden remains open for business and we look forward to welcoming our guests.
March is one of our favorite months here in St. Pete Beach. We love to see the smiles of relief when our guests dip their toes in the warm Gulf waters, we can almost SEE them thawing out from those cold winter days up North. March is full of exciting activities here in the Tampa Bay Beaches area: air shows, road races, art events, speedboat races, live music, and all the green beer and shamrocks you could ever wish for. Find your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow here at Alden Suites.
March 9: Machu Peachu Release Celebration
Celebrate Mastry’s Brewing Co.’s newest release, March 9 from 2-9pm. The rustic and ancient corn beer, known as Chicha de Jora, was once a sacred drink of the Incas. It is still widely consumed in the Andean highlands and home-brewed by the locals. Today, Mastry’s has kept up with tradition, with a post-modern approach, by using bloody butcher corn, along with mixed fermentation, to recreate this sacred beer, while adding our own twist of re-fermentation on roasted peaches. Machu Peachu is funky, sweet and tart. With soft flavors and aroma from the peaches, and sourness brought on from fermentation, this beer is sure to delight the palate.

Morean Arts Center
American artist Dale Chihuly is one of the most renowned glass artists working today. The Morean Arts Center boasts his first permanent collection in a building designed specifically for his art. Get lost in a swirl of classy glass sculptures like colorful beach ball-sized spheres inspired by Japanese fishing floats, a delicate and dynamic forest of glass, a cascading chandelier and jumbo blooms gazed at from below through glass. Before you leave, make sure to pop into the Morean Class Studio and Hotshop to see resident artists creating glass art right in front of your eyes!
Imagine Art Center
If you love glass art, St. Petersburg is the place for you. In addition to Morean Arts Center, we are privileged to have the Imagine Museum. Featuring preeminent works from the American Studio Glass Movement and an extraordinary selection of contemporary glass sculptures from around the world. The gallery exhibitions change throughout the year to expose the viewer to new artists and new works from the collection.
Salvador Dalí Museum
When an art-collecting couple sought a home for their droves of Daliana back in the 1970s, St. Pete stepped up and built the Salvador Dali Museum. The building that houses 96 of the Spanish surrealist’s oil paintings (as well as original drawings, illustrations, prints, sculptures, photos, videos and archival documents) is as much of a work of art as the pieces inside it. Enter the massive wavelike bubble made from more than a thousand triangular pieces of glass which envelops 18-inch thick hurricane-proof concrete exterior walls and enjoy an afternoon perusing the gigantic masterworks of the artist who’s as famous for his trippy dreamscapes and melting clocks as he is for his kooky signature curlicued mustache. Don’t forget to take a selfie in the Bubble Mirror!
Museum of Fine Arts
If you’re looking for your fix of fine artists, from the classic to the contemporary, look no further! The Museum of Fine Arts holds pieces spanning 4,500 years of civilization from antiquity to the present—the only comprehensive art collection of its kind on Florida’s west coast. From a legendary permanent collection to compelling traveling exhibitions, the MFA is ready to inspire with diverse and ever-changing opportunities to experience art.
The Duncan McClellan Gallery
The Duncan McClellan Galleryhttps://dmglass.com/, located in St. Petersburg Florida, features rotating exhibitions showcasing national and internationally recognized glass artists. With 3,000 square feet of gallery spaces and 5,000 square feet of outdoor courtyards and lushly planted sculpture gardens, the grounds are a sought after event and meeting place for glass artists, visiting dignitaries, and the community.

The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art opened in April 2018 and transports visitors through the rich and diverse heritage of the American West. The museum engages the community through a variety of programs and educational opportunities that bring our history and culture to life.
Central Arts District
In recent years, hundreds of murals have popped up on buildings in the Central Arts District in downtown St. Pete. St. Petersburg, Florida is well known for its thriving beer scene: with 35+ local craft breweries offering artisanal beers brewed on-site, there’s no wonder we’re nicknamed the Gulp Coast! However, wine is no doubt having its own moment here. Recently, several new wine bar concepts have popped up and we’ve compiled a list of the best. Here are some of our favorite local wine bars that would make Dionysus proud!
Sola Bistro & Wine Bar
Just a few blocks away from the Alden is a St. Pete Beach favorite: Sola Bistro & Wine Bar. This European-style wine bar brings in an eclectic mix of wine from the world’s greatest winemaking regions. They pair the vino with a killer selection of tapas, including Figs & Chorizo, Pork Belly, and an Italian spin on shrimp and grits called Shrimp & Polenta. Cheese lovers will adore their generous Cheese & Charcuterie boards. ((HINT)): if you want to hang out with Chris and Dave of the Alden Cabana Bar, they can often be found here after work!
Lolita’s Wine Market
The great thing about Lolita’s (named after the owners’ precious
rescue dog, Lola) is that it has a little bit of everything. It’s a wine bar
meets coffee shop that features CYO (Create Your Own) charcuterie platters with
an ever-changing assortment of cheeses, meats and accoutrements,
Spanish/Mediterranean-inspired tapas and even a few local brews for non-wine
lovers to enjoy! It’s quickly become a local favorite for its great and
affordable boutique wine selection and eclectic menu that focuses on fresh
products. Sit down and relax and make some new friends or take your food and
wine to go and enjoy a gorgeous beach sunset or movie in a park.
Located in the heart of Downtown St. Petersburg’s Edge District, COPA is a middle-ground for wine and beer lovers alike and boasts an impressive selection of small plates inspired by flavors from the Caribbean, Latin America, and Asia. Try their signature spirit-based cocktails and pair them up with their various world-infused tapas. COPA offers inside seating at private tables or in their lounge or bar and outside seating in their upscale outdoor lunge or at a private table. They also have space for patio hookah on buzzing Central Avenue! COPA is perfect for anyone looking for an upbeat environment without the congestion of late-night experience.
Annata Wine Bar
North Straub Park is located just steps from the downtown waterfront and features scenic views, a recreation trail, a stage for varied entertainment and nearly 5 acres of lush landscaping. Just steps away from it is Annata—a restaurant and wine bar that welcome you to enjoy contemporary cuisine, warm hospitality, and unparalleled service. Their menu reflects a mix of fine dishes from Italy and abroad with local ingredients sourced from their relationships with bay area farms and suppliers. Stop by and enjoy their incredible wine selection and even more impressive charcuterie boards!

Here at the Alden, we love to hear our guests’ stories and
see your vacation photos. Throughout 2019 we received hundreds of submissions
for our story contests, and gave away thousands of dollars in prizes to our storytellers.
Here are some of the 2019 stories that touched our hearts, made us laugh, and
helped us celebrate our 50th Anniversary!
“The hotel is kept with pride. Everyone is so friendly and the sun, pool, beach, and grounds are beautiful. We can walk to a great restaurant, stay-in in our suite, or just relax and unplug in the sun.”
I’ve been coming to The Alden since I was one year old, and have been coming here with my wife since getting married. This year, thirty-four years later, my wife and I brought our little boy to visit for the first time — along with my mom and aunt who have brought me here all these years. This place holds such special, happy memories for us that we acknowledged that happiness by giving our son Alden as his middle name! The 50th-anniversary party was his first plane trip to visit the Alden — but certainly not his last!
“Staff was very nice. Loved being on the beach. Loved the
Sunset at Alden with grandkids! Their 1st time at the ocean.
“The resort is right on the beach with access to shops and
restaurants nearby. The rooms are spacious especially great for a large family

We got the honor of attending the epic 50th-anniversary party! What an awesome way to give back to all of your guests! Our second visit here and plan on staying many more times for our little family vacations!
“Been visiting The Alden for 48 years. We’ll be back next week for 11 nights for Thanksgiving. We love the “family feeling”
My first year, 8 years old. Alden Suites’ new wing under still under construction.
“Meeting Fred and Dee Zuroske 8 years ago during an annual spring Alden stay. Dee has since moved to heaven but we keep in touch with Fred and see him outside of our Alden’s stays. Fred is like another Grandpa to my girls. He has been coming to the Alden for 20 plus years and the St Pete area for 30 plus years. The Alden has a great family that owns it, has a great family that runs and works it and has great families that come to stay and play.”
Sissies sell seashells by the seashore…. aka Alden seashore. My girls painted shells one afternoon and then shared them with people on the beach that evening while watching the sunset.
“David and Chris at the bar are always our favorite reason
for visiting. We had the chance to meet many other staff members for the first
time during our 5 day stay and I have to say, you guys really just have the
best staff around. So friendly, so helpful, so FUN!”
Letting loose in my resort wear the day before my wedding 🙂
“My husband and in-laws planned this trip and it couldn’t have been nicer! Staff was above and beyond kind and helpful- even when I needed something as random as super glue, they delivered!! Clean, lovely rooms! I could see us all coming back alone our bringing kids the next time! Nice mix of people- family-friendly as well. Very cool, Alden!”
First time parasailing and all the info was right outside
our room on the beach! They even pulled up in the water right next to our
umbrella to pick us up! Alden made our vacation super easy!
What better place than Alden Suites to celebrate a Birthday!
We drove 1254 miles from Minnesota to celebrate our daughter’s 17th Birthday!
“From the start, our reservation was so easy. Our check-in was a breeze and the staff was very friendly and funny too. You can tell they love their job and are happy to make your stay the absolute best. Our room overlooked the gulf, and it was clean with plenty of linens and extra towels. The staff at the Cabana bar were equally friendly and provided tasty drinks with a smile. We will definitely go back!!”
The best way to do a Sleepover Birthday Party is
@AldenSuites in St. Pete Beach!!
“Upon arrival, I went to the front desk to check-in, the 2 men working were so super fun! They were very kind and informative. Our room was perfect and clean! We were right by the elevator and it was surprisingly quiet! Our stay at the Alden Suites was beyond our expectations! The pool was lovely! We even spent some time at the Cabana Bar, and let me tell you we had a blast! The bartenders were so fun and the drinks were soooo yummy! I can’t wait to come back!”
My stay at the Alden couldn’t have been any better! From the
staff to the view from our room, everything was amazing! 10 out of 10! 5 stars!
We LOVE Alden Suites!

fade. But the memories will last forever.” #SummerTime #AldenFans #BeachBums”
“Wonderful front desk service and our room was better than
we even expected. Thank you for making my daughter’s birthday weekend extra
Beach Birthday Fun!
“I retired from my school position after 22 years and turned
60 at the same time and wanted to celebrate big with my family (17 of us) on
the beach because that is where I love to be! My Uncle and his 2 daughters from
NY flew in to join the celebration! It was the best 10 days of my life!”
“We started coming to the Alden Suites about 10 years ago. My husband and I decided we wanted to get married at our favorite place on earth, St. Pete Beach. We usually visit at least 2 times per year. We looked at other places but decided they were not “our beach”. The staff went out of their way to make our sunrise wedding exceptional. We brought family and friends with us for our beach ceremony. After the ceremony, we dipped into the gulf only to exit the water to cheering crowds on their balconies at The Alden Suites. Our friends and family love this resort also and now have returned and made The Alden Suites their favorite place too. The staff is so accommodating and friendly.”
Wedding Day July 20, 2018. The Alden Suites, St. Pete Beach,
Florida. Best day ever!!
“My husband and his family have been coming here 50 years,
we love it!! And will continue to come for all of our Florida vacations!!!”
Our daughters on our first vacation as a family of 5!
“We love to vacation at the Alden Suites. The rooms are
actually set up so perfect for families with young children. They can nap in
the bedroom and we close off the living room area to hang out while they are
napping. We love the playground area and the beach bar for us of course. We’ve
been coming to the Alden for about 8 years now, almost every summer we fly to
St. Pete Beach from Colorado to defrost after the long winters here. We have
family in St. Pete so we have so many special memories made there with family
coming to spend the day with us on the beach. My grandfather is 93 years old
WWll Veteran and comes to see us every summer while we are staying at the
Alden. We are looking forward to continuing to make many more special moments
during our stays each summer.”
We spent the week at the Alden beach resort relaxing on the
beach and building sandcastles. My son took his first steps on the sand and
fell directly on top of the castle we had just built and my daughter cried that
“bubba” ruined her princess castle!
“We got to enjoy the beautiful dolphins on the beach every
morning. Something I remember enjoying as a kid while visiting your beach.
Thank you for always giving us the best memories.”
My kids first time seeing the ocean staying at the Alden. It
has left a mark on them and we will be back every year.
“Each year the exceptional service of the Alden staff makes
our vacation memorable!.”
